Mr Midas and his "Celebrity Friends"

Part one: Behind the scenes of the "So Close" Video Shoot

Urban Nerd featured in "So Close" by Gang Green Intl

As some of you know the T-Shirt line called Urban Nerd and its been picking up momentum over the last 2 years. It's got a pretty decent presence in the Colorado Hip-hop scene, and has been picking up momentum nationally, so when the offer came my way to get involved with this music video, “I jumped at the chance.” These kind of opportunities don’t come around that often ya know.

Now I posted this video here before when this blog first started, but now i have the clean version, and its actually got a few extra modifications and effects in it so this is definitely the one to peep.. One of the biggest obstacles hip-hop artists in this region faced was lack of unity and way to much "click-beefin & competition". But as some of you have seen, the groups may or may not work with each other but man have ties to urban nerd and that is slowly unifying the scene. It's funny how things work themselves out, if you let it.

CAC & Innerstate Ike- "Dont Wanna Be right"

If you know anything about the music scene in Denver you know that the streets and music are intertwined pretty heavy. A very unfortunate event took place some time ago where two of the cities more known rappers were gunned down one night after a club. One died (CAC) and one survived to take his music and story to levels it had never been before.. Here's a collabo video by Ike and CAC... R.I.P big homie.. (they keep your name in the air like clouds round here bro)

D.O. the fabulous Drifter

Some of you may be familiar with a group from Colorado called "The Ground Zero Movement" and some of you probably aren't but either way it goes, I wanted to "re-post" this video from D.O (one of the members of that camp) We go back a few years rhyming and doing shows with each other so it was only right that I put you up on yet some more Mile High Hip-hop that tends to go under the radar waaaayyy to often.

Whygee - Chumps in Pink

In the mist of all the "baller-music" that we love soo much in Hiphop right now, many seem to forget what hiphop is really about "beats and lyrics". As I would like to consider myself one of my regions pioneers(meaning i was on the rhyme circuit out here since 2000.. to you little kids) its always refreshing to hear some good old Emcee music every now and then. I really hate how this game has gotten soo far away from its roots, and now over-saturated with "get rich quick-singles and ringtone - rappers". Don't get me wrong.. I'm not hatin, just stating the facts.. remember "denial is a disease yall". If you truly disagree with what I'm saying prove me wrong. I dare you!

But anyway back to this brotha Whygee, never met the dude or even been to any of his shows.. but when I stumbled onto this video, it made me feel good about hiphop again. Some may call it "backpacker" or whatever but if thats the case then I'm a backpacker too futher muckers... I like how it rep'd for graf writers and all that. That touched a nerve with me personally since thats the era I came up in when I was living in Los Angeles. I carried a backpack full of markers, mean-streaks and tester cans.. (what I like to call the GOOD OLD DAYS.. )So for all you hiphop purists out there that still appreciate B-Boy music.. Get a dose of Whygee.. and keep the hope alive... HIP HOP Aint Dead!!!... its just on vacation while corporate America tries to dabble with "commercialized drug-dealers and stripper tunes.... I like that music too you guys don't trip, Im just telling it like it is..

The only thing missing from this video is an urban-nerd tee but thats just my opinion.. maybe we'll work that out in the future.. Get at me Whygee

Gotta Love Hip-Hop Toons..

I found these skits this morning.. you might not think they're funny but I was laughing. I guess I just get a kick outta shit that has small ironic truths mixed in some with comedy. It's kinda like when people would say "if you could learn your schoolwork in a rap song every one would have good grades".. Guess ya gotta sneak information in where ever you can since nobody seems to want to learn any other way... Oh well... either way these two clips were funny.. This first one is called "Locked Up" ... and it mocks brothas that cant shake that jail - shit.. to the point the wanna go back... sad but true for some... think about it yall..

haha and this one is called "MuG"... for all them "Super- Gangstas"

Cotton ... what were you about to say?

Now I rarely ever address racial issues or political opinions on this site but as I was browsing around cyberspace today on a a few black blogs I came across something that I just couldn't ignore. I saw an article about "Condi Rice" (how ever the hell you spell her name) and the reaction both the media and certain politicians have had over her comment on race and Americas pasts. It seems like ever since Obama had to give that "Speech" on race this just set it off everywhere. We all know Ms. Rice is pretty much considered the modern day "House N***a" for the Bush presidency and always seems to act like everything is "okay" because she is in that position as a black women(which to some degree is an accomplishment) but she's always came off as a Bush "Yes-Man" or in her case "yes-woman" they even refer to her as the "office -wife" which really lets you know what kinda bullsh*t is really going down. But the fact of the matter is, after Obama's speech good old Condi rubbed alotta people wrong when it seemed like she had a "black-moment" and confirmed that racism is truly a part of America's history. It seems like "some people" think if you act like it never happened that it doesnt exist. I mean for real, I'm noticing more and more people get upset over hearing the "truth about America's past" than ever before. Look at how everyone lost it over Obama's old pastor. I know how it came off may have rubbed people wrong , but get past the delivery and look at the facts.. "did it or did it not happen?" point blank.. "Denial is a disease" and i keep seeing people act like the past isn't the past. Now back to what prompted me to post this... Check out how this guy gets soo upset about trying to justify his opinion on racism and politics that he damn near says some racist shit ...

Damn I Work In Advertising too..

I can't front. This video was sadly too damn true to even act like it wasn't.. Sometimes the truth is funny though, when you actually hear it said by someone else. I've been working in advertising for a few months now and even though we everybody I work with and for is pretty cool I have seen quite a few of these situations go down. Having a creative job to me is unlike anything you could ever imagine.. You exist in a world with no rules or boundaries but work within so many parameters you wonder if you really have freedom at all.. Gotta-love it..

Billabong Rapes… Artists and Designers

This shit needs to stop! Johnny Cupcakes has fallen victim yet again to large corporations looking to profit off of those who don’t know any better. As you can see in the photo above Billabong recently released a shirt that is a blatant RIP OFF of a Johnny Cupcakes original that was released back in 2005. So what can we do? Well for starters spread the word… if you’ve got a blog please re-post this.

Unfortunately in today’s market… the only voice we have other than shaming Billabong… is our wallet! They cannot survive as a company or brand if we stop providing them with the means to sustain themselves… DO NOT buy their products, DO NOT wear their products, Send them and email expressing your frustration and disgust. Let them know they will never again see any of your hard earned money.

This isn’t the first time Billabong has been caught either… they did the same exact thing to Mike Giant a year or two back. Example here.

Democracy = Participation

As a community and as a society… we really need to start taking a stand and showing corporate America that we call the shots! WE DRIVE the economy… and we determine if a brand is successful or not…

Please support your local designers and retailers who carry conscious driven goods that are made and produced in an ethical manner!

Ready, Set, Go!

When this blog first launched I have to admit I really didnt know much about how they worked. I just knew that I wanted one attached to the site and that was about it. After spending some time online and visiting tons of other blogs I finally understand what this should be used for.. (venting and dirt sharing) haha! Okay maybe not completely but its gonna go down like that over here.. at least every blue moon.

Your probably here because I begged you to visit this thing or you stumbled onto it somewhere out there in cyberspace.. so I'm gonna try to keep it interesting.. You all know that besides the clothing thing that Urban Nerd is about the "identity" not just me. I first entered this business behind the mic, not behind the scenes.. So if I'm dissin somebody that I feel is wack or whatever, it's because I personally feel I have the right to.. I've been in the trenches with this music and entertainment stuff for years, so "Yes" I can have an opinion.

Right now, the freelance designer thing is really taking off for me and the company, so I'll have plenty to talk about. Make sure you sign up for the notifications (I think you can do that here..lol)...

Stuff I'll be writing about:

  • Art and Design
  • Freelance Successes and failures
  • Weird ass celebrities
  • Nightclub life
  • Politics
  • New Tech gadgets
  • and whatever the hell I feel basically..
So join in and lets stir up some controversy !!! Cause everybody loves DRAMA
